Directions from London:
- A3 in a SW direction
- Leave A3 at Milford
(5 minutes after passing Guildford) at
the signposting for the A283 to Petworth
- On approaching the
outskirts of Petworth, turn left at mini
roundabout immediately after Stonemasons’
Arms onto
- A272 East in the direction
of Wisborough Green and Billingshurst
- After 1½ miles,
at the top of a fast hill, turn right.
Signposted Fittleworth.
- After ½ mile,
branch left. Signposted Riverhill and
Little Bognor. (This road is very narrow
– sound motor horn).
- After ½ mile
or so, take the first turning to the left
(no signpost, but just past the first
house on the right – Riverhill House)
- You have arrived in
the centre of Riverhill!
- Riverhill Lodge is
the house behind the beech hedge on right
hand side a few hundred yards down the
lane (and before a very steep hill).
Directions from Billingshurst:
- Take A 272 West in
the direction of Petworth
- Go through Wisborough
Green and then a small hamlet called Strood
Green.
- A couple or so miles
after this you will start up a long, steepish
hill (the only significant hill you will
have encountered after Wisborough Green).
You will by now have travelled some 8
miles from Billingshurst.
- At the top of the
hill take the turning to the left, signed
Fittleworth (this is also the lorry by-pass
route around Petworth.
- Then follow steps
6-9 as above
Directions
from Petworth:
Take the road East towards Pulborough. Pass
the Welldiggers Arms on your right hand
side, then
- After about ½
mile, you take the next turning left (signed
only with 6’6” narrow road
sign but no direction!). This road is
very narrow (need to hoot on the bends).
- After about ½
mile you take the lane to the right (the
entrance of which is just before the first
house you will have encountered since
leaving the main road).
- Then after just ¼
mile there is a beech hedge on the right
and that is us.
Alternatively,
if you approach, via Haslingbourne Lane
– effectively the by-pass south of
Petworth - towards Pulborough
- Turn left back towards
Petworth at the new junction before Fittleworth.
- Immediately go through
the hamlet of Egdean, then after ½
mile or so,
- Take the turning to
the right off the main road (signed only
with 6’6” narrow road sign!).
This road is very narrow (need to hoot
on the bends). Note: if you find you have
missed this turning and you arrive at
the Welldiggers Pub on the way into Petworth,
you have gone too far and will need to
do a ‘Uie’
- Then follow steps
2-3 from Petworth

is Fittleworth, we are the most northerly
house in the community, a couple of miles
out of the village itself!
